General course description

The course presents the different elements involved in managing the persistence of data . It highlights the main differences between an FMS (File Management System) and a DBMS (Data Base Management System).

Course Aims

  • To understand the notions of representation, description and semantics of data
  • To master the different organisations of files, envisage their implementation
  • To provide the necessary notions to subsequently understand (second-year course) the parameterisation in the physical structure of a relational DB
